DISCOVER THE CHICEST OF THEM ALL: ANTIQUE DRESSERS WITH MIRRORS

While you can always hang a mirror over a standard dresser, there’s nothing like a destined-to-be-together set—by which we mean: antique dressers with mirrors. From the Victorian era until the Mid 20th Century, dresser and mirror sets were all the rage. Intended to be used much like a bathroom vanity, bedroom dressers with mirrors extolled a sense of luxury, making them a must-have in virtually every bedroom. Today, dresser and mirror sets are ideal for outfitting a bedroom with a sense of bygone glamour or adding function to any entryway, hallway, or even a dining room. Designers also have a penchant for replacing these pieces’ tops with drop-in sinks to transform them into one-of-a-kind bathroom vanities.

If you’re looking for a traditional vintage dresser with a mirror, there are plenty of styles available in traditional Victorian designs, such as Eastlake style, and Renaissance and Rococo style reproductions. Given that Art Nouveau was also trending during the Victorian era, it’s common to find Art Nouveau-inspired antique dressers with mirrors. Ideal for those who are looking for a clean-lined design, Art Nouveau designs most often include a mirror that’s supported by sculptural, whiplash arms. Other more streamlined styles include Art Deco examples, which often come equipped with modern, waterfall corners and flat drawer fronts. Those with a penchant for Neoclassical or French-style may also want to consider commodes in the Louis XVI style. Standard French dresser features include marble tops and gold gilded mirrors.

While most antique bedroom dressers showcase rectangular mirrors, it’s possible to find small dressers with mirrors that come equipped with oval, round, or even tri-fold mirrors. Less common, but extremely dramatic are antiquated designs featuring full-length dressing mirrors with cabinets stacked on either side. Dressers with mirrors can also be sourced in a wide variety of woods, making it easy to find a perfect match for your home. While it’s most common to find bedroom dressers made of standard woods like walnut, mahogany, or oak, many pieces showcase specimen woods on drawer fronts, such as bird’s eye maple, tiger oak, or burled walnut or oak. It’s also common to find parquet or chevron-inlay drawer fronts, especially on Art Deco designs.
