Reuniting three land parcels back into an original turn-of-the-century plot allowed these clients to create a new guest house that provides generous and comfortable guest accommodations and a variety of entertainment spaces for their frequent guests and extended family. A new slate and stucco house and adjacent stone garage were designed to blend harmoniously with the estate’s 1915 Stucco Colonial main house. As the guest house also faces an adjoining road, it is designed to maintain a well-established streetscape and complement the houses in the neighborhood. On the rear façade of the house, and on axis with a large central lawn leading to the main house, are the spa, pool and terrace. French doors leading from the central Entertainment Room are flanked by open porches that provide areas for lounging and dining. These in turn are nestled under sheltering roofs that house inset dormer balconies above. Across the terrace is the garage, which features an outdoor fireplace. The interior features the first floor Entertainment Room housing a sitting area with fireplace, large TV, and a dining area. A colonnade on one side of the room leads to the Reception Hall and Main Entry door. On the other side are French doors, which lead to the outdoor terrace. Beyond the dining area is the Kitchen, with a pass-through that can also serve as the bar. The basement has a more casual recreation room which includes a sitting area, bar and pool table. The second floor includes a Master Bedroom and bath and two bedroom suites, with additional sleeping provided in the third-floor children’s bunk room.

Located just outside the Kitchen, the Dining Porch comfortably seats ten and overlooks the pool/spa terrace and the outdoor fireplace at the garage beyond.

The spiral stair provides a bit of whimsy among the fine custom detailing of the Master Bedroom. Nestled into a corner, it provides a dramatic feature as it rises through the coved ceiling to the tower room above. The stair features a hand scraped walnut handrail supported on iron and nickel balusters.
