Having secured a prime site on a scenic cove along Long Island Sound, our clients requested a comfortable, New England shingle-style home that would take full advantage of its stunning setting. The octagonally shaped Master Bath provides for an elegant room with a conveniently laid out plan. A vaulted ceiling rests on an entablature that rings the room and is supported by paneled pilasters framing the openings in each face of the octagon. The paneled tub front is set into a paneled niche, to its’ left is the raised paneled marble shower, and on the right the water closet. Paneled his and her vanity alcoves have medicine cabinets tucked behind side panels and a translucent panel in the alcove ceiling provides additional lighting. The marble mosaic floor has a decorative border framed by a wide marble outer border.

Having secured a prime site on a scenic cove along Long Island Sound, our clients requested a comfortable, New England shingle-style home that would take full advantage of this stunning setting. This new 13,000 sq. ft. house is clad in Alaskan yellow cedar, trimmed with a variety of classical wood details and anchored to the site with a heavy fieldstone base. The rear waterside façade boasts a semi-circular wing projecting at an angle from the corner of the house. While the sweeping curve of the wing containing the Master Study above and open Summer Porch below allows the clients and their guests to enjoy a panoramic view of the cove and Sound, the additive and playful nature of the volume itself is consistent with classic shingle-style homes of the northeast. The second floor Master Study, supported by casual yet elegant Doric columns below, is punctuated with custom curved double hung windows that follow the radius of the rounded wall. The Master Study and Summer Porch are two unique spaces which individually highlight the natural vistas surrounding the site while combining to make one striking volume that enhances the rear façade of house.

As part of the second floor Master Suite, the client’s Study has a comfortable sitting area and custom designed his and her desks with mahogany tops. Reminiscent of the prow of a ship, the room’s curved shape provides for commanding views of Long Island Sound.
