The face is wrought with the wear of the years, perhaps the toil and turmoil of the years. It is a true study of artistic genius in portraying the emotion and strain of a lifetime. The picture is signed, but the signature is camouflaged within the strokes of the drawing. It appears to be a charcoal, pastel, or pencil drawing. It has been professionally matted and framed with a dark teal mat and a simple black frame. Having been protected under glass, we assume that the drawing is in perfect condition. The date is our best estimate. The frame measures 13¾ inches wide by 10¾ inches tall, and the drawing itself measures 7 inches wide by 9½ inches tall.

Another drawing by the same artist was paired with this one at the estate sale where we found this drawing, and so we acquired both (see photos). That second drawing is of a mother and child. It is also available in our Chairish shop. less
