However, we did not want to dismantle the frame and photograph. simply to get a glare-free picture. Consequently, we have posted multiple similar shots.

This charming photograph, dating from approximately 1880, is remarkable in its clarity. You can clearly see detail in the embroidery on the subject's intricate blouse collar as well as her drop earrings. The photographer has magically captured her serene, pensive pose. Restorers of historic photographs tell me that the silver content of the film in the late 1800s provided for this incredible level of detail. The beautiful, and ornate frame is a testament to the fact that photographs were an expensive and prized possession in the late 19th Century. This piece came from an estate in central Virginia. Sadly, we have no clue as to the identity of the subject.

The frame measures 24.5 inches wide by 28 inches tall. It is a full 3 inches in depth. less
