Lower mantel features high relief … Read more Monumental and important c. 1890 German Renaissance style chestnut mantel composed from earlier carved elements. Lower mantel features high relief carved figural jambs on paneled pedestal feet. Frieze has central and corner bracket supports with cherubim figure heads and ornamented panels with strapwork and rosettes. Architectural overmantel has caryatid pilasters, a central niche with scallop shell top and substantial cornice. Two flanking relief carved panels feature religious narrative imagery of Jesus before Pontius Pilate and Jesus carrying the cross. Opening: H: 40.5" x W: 52.75". Provenance: John D.
