Referring primarily to the Italian styles of the period, Renaissance style dates from the 14th century to the late 15th century and is characterized by all things ornate and opulent. Furnishings made of rich woods, inlays of ivory and marble, and ornate detailing of precious elements are key markers of the Renaissance style. Look for large, oversized pieces that could have been found in the large homes of the period, rich velvet and leather fabrics on dining chairs, and ornate marriage chests that symbolized the wealth of a Renaissance family.
