I'm not sure if it's Asian or African or what, but the estate where I purchased it had wonderful items from all over the world. Carved from a solid piece of wood and slightly out of round. This is dense and heavy with lots of organic character and patina from age and use. The inside looks like it was used for pounding/crushing. It'd be lovely holding kitchen utensils. With a liner it can hold a plant or flowers.

Measurements are: 9.5 inches tall on the high side and 8.5" tall on the low side. It is 7.5 inches across in one direction at the widest and 6 7/8ths across the narrowest width. The inside diameter of opening is about 5.25 inches across and is approximately 7.5 inches deep. A very special vessel for use or display... thanks for looking!!! See less
