Description: We found this solid pair of William & Mary style armchairs at a fine estate near Raleigh, North Carolina. We … more We found this solid pair of William & Mary style armchairs at a fine estate near Raleigh, North Carolina. We believe that the chairs are mid-century reproductions, probably dating from the 1970s. They are well constructed, heavy, sturdy, and strong. We also believe that these chairs came from one of the great nearby furniture manufacturers of North Carolina, which would be logical given their age, location, and craftsmanship. We have had them newly re-upholstered in an exquisite Asian print from our supplier in Tokyo. Given the origin and subject matter of the new upholstery, it would actually be more accurate to call the chairs “japonaiserie” rather than “chinoiserie”. The seat has been covered in a matching red velvet. For the reverse side of the back, we chose a gold-on-gold damask stripe. The chairs were in excellent condition when we found them. As you can see from the photos, they are truly “like new” after the work of our master upholsterer.

The chairs measure 42 inches high at the crest, and the seats are 18 inches high from the floor. They are 28 ½ inches wide and 27 inches deep. less
