Description: We often associate the 1960s and mid-Century period with rockets and space travel: the Soviet Sputnik, President Kennedy promising to … more We often associate the 1960s and mid-Century period with rockets and space travel: the Soviet Sputnik, President Kennedy promising to put a man on the moon by the end of the decade, the Apollo missions, etc. However, it was during the Art Deco period that the concept of space travel and rockets really became the rage. Science Fiction was a huge hit in all the cinemas with Flash Gordan going to the planet Mongo and Buck Rogers travelling across the galaxy. As Art Deco morphed into Streamline Moderne, we see that many designers and architects began to echo the lines of rocketry. This crystal pattern from Fostoria might be the epitome. The pattern is called "Rocket" (aptly enough), and it was produced from 1934 to 1943.. A stylized, Art Deco representation of a rocket is etched on the bowls of the glasses in this pattern. These particular glasses (in this listing) measure just under 4 inches tall and are 2 inches in diameter at the rim. They hold 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 ounces of liquid (more or less). They would work well as whiskey glasses or for liqueurs and cordials. They appear to be in perfect condition. We have found no sights of use or wear, no flaws or imperfections.
