Late=Renaissance artist Joachim Wtewael was a remarkable storyteller and a great master of the Dutch Golden Age. He as born and raised in Utrecht, Netherlands and embraced international Mannerism, a popular painting style characterized by extreme refinement, artifice and elegant distortion. He remained one of the leading proponents of Mannerism throughout his career.
I was unable to find any specific reference to this painting,
I do enjoy this painting. It has a wonderful sense of humour to it. The stance of Joseph, obviously trying to escape, with robes flowing, is wonderful. Even the dog is trying to grab onto his robes! And the luxury of the room, where the fabrics are depicted beautifully, adds a richness that only this era of painters could capture with such detail.
This print is available on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Paper printed using the Giclee method.
