Provenance: My parents were stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines; from 1946 until 1948. These items were purchased during that time.
You are purchasing a pair of heavily lacquered panels, believed to be Pilipino red mahogany veneer. Both panels have inlaid flowers, stems and butterflies. The stems and leaves appear to be brass, while the flowers and butterflies appear to be tin. Both brass and tin are cut/scored to define pedals, leaves and butterfly wings.
The lacquered wood appears as a deep, rich ruby-red, but under direct light, the red is glossy bright red.
Condition; see photos:
• Overall great antique condition
• All metal inlay is present;
• Mahogany grain is visible through the lacquer, and some grain is slightly raised, which does not diminish the beauty of the pieces;
• One piece has damage on the lower edge, where it appears it had been dropped;
• Both pieces have faint scratches near the top
Dimensions for each: 8” wide x 26” tall
Created 1940-1949.
Pieces are approximately 80 years old, and have traveled from the Philippines to the US, later to England then back to the US. Both panels are firm, but show some age and scratches.
I will combine shipping with additional sales.
From a smoke-free/pet-free home. Please see all photos, read descriptions and ask questions before purchasing. Thank you.
