I was raised by a single mom who taught me to value memories, instead of things. To remember that new, does not mean better, that traditions rooted in the old, treasured pieces of home are better than anything bought in a department store. I was surrounded, however by a bevy of loving Aunts, Great- Aunts, Uncles and Great Uncles that taught me quality, and antiques. Glassware, china, furniture and tools, if it was made in the past, it was likely better quality and had an interesting story. As I grew older, I became increasingly aware that as time goes, so do the people that carry the traditions and the memories we cherish above everything else.
I created Treasured Yesterdays with a thought to all the people who had memories of loved ones embedded in memories of the cherished dinner and glassware that they used with their loved ones, in special occasions and in everyday moments. To a hope for being able to restore those memories by replacing pieces that were lost, broken or split when they lost a loved one, so that they could be used to create memories for tomorrow. To a belief that the items, the pieces created in times gone by could be used by new people, to create new memories. And because I think that the history of the glassware, the antiques, the china, should not be forgotten. Whether we know their story, lived their story, or will create their story ourselves in the future, we should respect the history of what was before us, who was before us, and what and who will be the stories of the future.
Someday I hope to use this store to create my own tomorrow. The money I raise by selling tiny parts of yesterday will be used to buy myself a home of my own. That's my aim. That's my hope for tomorrow.
