Fine East Asian Ceramics and Teawares ---

In addition to listing antique, vintage, and contemporary pieces from Japan and Korea, I also post wares of my own creation.

My interest in ceramics began early on. Having studied at the Ceramics Research Institute at Ewha Womens University in Seoul, I became interested in the Korean connection to Japanese pottery. I moved to Kyushu where I began my academic foray into Karatsu ware. After my research was completed, I turned my hand to the potters wheel. Inspired by collections of antique Korean and Japanese wares, I create pieces in the Takatori style at Miraku-gama in Fukuoka.

I specialise in tea bowls and sake vessels, with a particular focus on end-results that resonate with the Kirei-sabi 綺麗寂 aesthetic of refined and austere beauty. Although the clay and glazes I use belong to the Takatori tradition, my approach is to maximise the inner beauty of a vessel through glaze transformation. With my learned history of Korean and Karatsu wares, I seek to create distinctively individual and unique works that may be enjoyed practically and admired aesthetically.
