"The first duty of love is to listen," a prominent theologian once said. At Morgante-Wilson Architects, we draw inspiration from that statement. As we see it, listening is also the first duty of design.
Clients take a leap of faith when they solicit the services of a design firm. They trust us to bring to life their aesthetic and personal viewpoints in a way that complements who they are and how they want to live. That's an opportunity we honor by prioritizing their needs and preferences, engaging clients in an energetic, ongoing exchange of ideas.
The result: Many clients work with MWA over the long term, reengaging the firm as their requirements and sensibilities change. As much as any industry award, these lasting partnerships are a source of pride for us, a sign that we've succeeded in earning trust from the people we serve.
As interpreters of so many unique client preferences, MWA works comfortably within varied style conventions, from modern to traditional. Our palette of competencies is just as broad, spanning architecture, interior design and custom furniture design.
That breadth of service makes it possible to move fluently between new construction, renovations and interiors. It also enables a holistic approach, which MWA's principals like to explain in musical terms. When a firm has the capacity to work simultaneously on every layer of a project, from the blueprints to the surface finishes, the whole house, in the end, sings one song of proportion, texture, light and beauty.
For all the diversity, MWA homes share an important characteristic: Livability. We use design to create a respite from the pressures of the outside world, introducing a sense of ease into daily life. MWA homes are not stage sets. They're living entities built around the homeowner's needs, rather than the reverse. Our homes are most beautiful when lived in.
Another central conviction within the practice is that architecture should not merely reflect nature, but work in harmony with it. In addition to our respect for landscape design, we offer ecologically friendly building options and high-quality, cost-effective and energy-efficient choices for client consideration. Currently, MWA is completing the first Gold LEED-certified residence in Glenview, Illinois.
As the firm enters its third decade, MWA remains committed to both its community and craft. In addition to serving several universities and philanthropic concerns, MWA's work with the City of Chicago, The Village of Wilmette and numerous community organizations has initiated civic development standards that harness the potential for architecture--indeed, the duty of architecture--to make the world a healthier, more sustainable, more beautiful place.
