HELLO, I’M JENNIFER BURT and I’m a small-town entrepreneur. I graduated in Fashion & Business at Mississippi State University and continued my studies after college with the New York Institute of Art & Design. Since returning home to my charming college town of Starkville over a decade ago after stints in NYC & Las Vegas, my business has morphed into interior design with a focus on vintage.
So, what is Mississippi Maximalism?? Taking cues from the homes and of days gone by, Mississippi Maximalism is an elevated European look but with a southern traditional sensibility with a dash of humor and soul thrown in. Here in Mississippi, we've been blessed to grow up with a myriad of cultures and influences from originally being a French colony to the electrifying music of the Mississippi Blues and Elvis's Rock & Roll. Do you love anything gilt gold, white washed, or mirrored? How about animal print, designer, or whimsical? If so, you will love my offerings! I like to mix antiques that may or may-not have been inherited with more modern finishes such as clear acrylic for a 21st century look.
Mississippi Maximalism is growing! I am now in two brick-and-mortar locations as well as the Chairish Vintage Shop where I sell furniture and home accessories as well as vintage clothing that I find at local estate sales and charity shops. My interior design offerings have grown as well.
The mission is remaining the same: To rewrite the narrative of how the world sees Mississippi while also opening their eyes to our unique and one-of-a-kind style. I want to inspire you to establish your own personal style that mixes comfortable staples with glamorous accents without looking like everyone else. I know a wardrobe and home full of quality pieces you love can inspire you to go out into the world and live your best life.
