Kara’s work is visual mythology and folklore inspired by the wild, mysterious spirit of nature. She’s interested in our innate desire to connect with nature, not only in the wider world, but also through the practice of decorating our homes, buildings, and wares with its flora and fauna.
Kara's paintings are often described as romantic and serene. She draws inspiration not only from nature but from Elizabethan embroidery, European folk art, and Baroque ornamentation. By referencing these styles in her work she hopes to suggest a narrative to the viewer that will lead them to craft stories of their own about the work, even though most of the elements Kara features are all naturally found together in the landscape.
