    About

    Shop Banner

Gretchen Murdock was drawn to design at an early age, hearing her grandfather's stories of designing the famous display windows of the mid-century J.L. Hudson department store in downtown Detroit during the city's golden era. Her early inclination towards art led her to obtain a degree in interior architecture at Michigan State University.

Her interests in vintage elements, architecture and music combined with a keen eye for modern design, led her to found MODTAGE design studio, blending modern and vintage aesthetics. Gretchen is known for her meticulous attention to detail, her courageous use of color, and flawlessly mixing historic architecture with modern elements. Her design sensibilities have been influenced by the architecture, patterns and colors of her travels throughout Mexico, Spain, Scandinavia, Asia and her West Coast home.

MODTAGE design delivers a sophisticated and thorough approach to all phases of the design process. Offering a full spectrum of design services from conceptual design through final installation, each space is carefully considered and planned. With the education and knowledge of a trained professional, Gretchen combines her natural passion for design with the unique needs of each client.
