Hi I’m Courtenay Clifford better known as “C.C.”!
I’ve had a lifelong passion for interior design, jewelry, art and antiques. I reside in a historic New England city known for its roots in the costume jewelry industry and home to the Rhode Island School of Design. I am proud to live and care for an antique 1804 home whose everyday patina warms my heart and feeds my soul.
Vintage and good design is my passion! Growing up in Roland Park in Baltimore Maryland I was fortunate to live next door to the world’s largest collector of light bulbs and the founder of the only light bulb museum, Dr. Hugh Hicks. He and His wife Mary Lou also had a house full of glittery french chandeliers, gilded furniture and curio cabinets filled with museum quality goods.. You cannot imagine my delight as a child rummaging through room after room of antiques and learning from this collector, the very best.
From this childhood I spent my teen years combing the thrift stores in Fells Point Baltimore with my best friend Bryan, a self professed Titanic fanatic. In college I got a job working in the Village of Cross Keys and through her famous store, The Store LTD I got to know Betty Cooke, the renowned Mid-Century Modern Jewelry Designer. My family would treat me to a piece of jewelry every holiday making sure to use a big box and weights so I wouldn’t be tipped off to the fact that it contained my most coveted Betty Cooke jewelry.
Although my subsequent path led me to Business School at UCLA, the corporate world, real estate and a life in New York, Los Angeles, Newport RI, I have always prioritized infusing my life with great design. Living now in Providence, the Creative Capital, I am fortunate to live in an 1804 house on Benefit Street, the Mile of History, right down the street from Rhode Island School of Design. I am also immersed in the city that was once the Jewelry Capital of the World and the home of the Coro and Trifari jewelry companies.
Now I put that accumulated passion and knowledge into seeking curated goods for Gilded Vintage so I can share this passion with you! My hope is that these finds enrich your life and feed your spirit. Enjoy!
