Dell Mitchell Architects
Dell spent part of last fall at the prestigious American Academy in Rome, designed in 1913 by McKim, Mead and White. As an Artist in Residence Dell pursued her interest in floor tile and paving patterns, measuring and drawing examples from a select number of historical buildings with a view to how their geometries, scale, color mix, motifs, materials and textures can inform the design development of paving and ornament in new buildings, and provide inspiration for interior architectural finish materials, wall treatments and even textiles.
Dell Mitchell Architects has received the 2018 Bulfinch Award, given annually by the Boston Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, in the category RESIDENTIAL (RESTORATION, RENOVATION OR ADDITION). This is the firm’s third project to receive this distinguished award honoring Charles Bulfinch, the Boston architect who played a key role in introducing Neoclassicism to America in the late 18th century.
