Founded in 1886 in Evansville Indiana by Ferdinand Karges who brought with him the secrets of fine woodworking from the old world.
Now his grandson and his children still hand make one piece at a time at the time an order comes in, so each piece is unique.
With expertise and pride, artisans begin with the finest mahogany, cherry, and walnut to create ebonized wood as the one on this piece. The ebonized wood chest is no longer made so you would be buying a piece of American furniture history in this chest.
The photos show the Karges certificate of authenticity and the signature of the artist Betty Sendelweck, who worked on the decoration and hand painted finishings of this one-of-kind piece of art.
This bachelors chest features assymetrical Chinoisserie decorations which are hand painted by the artist.
The hardware is exquisite brass, nice and heavy… just like pieces of gold jewelry on a gorgeous ornament. less
