Sandro Becchetti's photographs are a photographic journey through the history of society and culture of Italy, punctuated by the faces of well-known and lesser-known personalities from politics, entertainment and sport, portrayed in over forty years of activity as a photojournalist. In every shot the soul of the "protagonist" lives again. Among the illustrious, Federico Fellini, Alfred Hitchcock, Moira Orfei, Claudia Cardinale, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Andy Warhol, Joe Cocker, Ugo Tognazzi and others.
The Italian photographer Sandro Becchetti (Rome, 1935) started his own activity in the second half of the Sixties. For many years he has documented the social, political and cultural reality of Italy in an intense collaboration with the major periodicals, newspapers and news agencies. In Rome, Becchetti had the opportunity to record the developments of a society in full change, not only in the streets and squares, but also in the palaces of power: illustrious names in culture and entertainment, personalities from political and economic life are been the protagonists of his portraits.
He has collaborated with the major Italian newspapers such as: La Repubblica, Il Messaggero, L'Unità, Paese Sera, L'Espresso, Il mondo, Secolo XIX, L'Astrolabio, L'altra Italia, Sipario and with press offices of parties and labor unions. His photos have appeared in Life and Liberation and are present in the archives of France Presse, BBC and RAI, as well as in private collections.
In 1980, after completing a long job on the Roman countryside, in his parents' homeland, he voluntarily stopped his activity to devote himself to something else. In that period he published in the literary magazine Nuovi Argomenti, directed by Alberto Moravia, a story dedicated to the peasant world, to which some radio and television broadcasts were dedicated. Since then, for fifteen years, he has mainly dealt with the art of wood and has collaborated sporadically with television for the writing of subjects for fiction.
