Vintage Carved Wooden Bust of what appears to be Thomas Jefferson above his Rotunda of the University of Virginia. The Rotunda at UVA in Charlottesville, Virginia; was modeled after the Pantheon of Rome and was designed to represent ""authority of nature and power of reason".
On the back of the sculpture is an Owl is carved, seemingly as representation of learning and wisdom.
The bust of Jefferson includes the lapel or collars of his shirt and fine detailing of his hair and ribbon tie back.
The unusual piece is marked on the bottom as carved in 1995 by C.A.Arthur. Unique and substantial, this art piece aligns with the Virginia Mountains of my childhood.
The square and bust stand approximately 33" tall. Art piece with a footprint is 9 1/2 inches deep and 11.5" wide; and weighs in at 46 lbs. This one of a kind sculpture is enough to be heavy and stout, but not painfully large.
For the Wahoo, Monticello aficionado or the History Buff of the Founding Fathers; this piece is for those who appreciate a one of a kind. No small carved shelf bust here. less
