Featuring a metal ring handle, small star shaped cut out vents, and a removable burner oil tank that can be unclipped at the bottom. Between 1800 and 1860, whale oil lamps like this one were considered “high tech” lighting solutions. Whale oil lamps burned brightly and were smoke-free compared to candles. Eventually, due to environmental concerns, the whale oil got replaced for kerosene. See less
