It could be adjusted, I just never did it. There are a few slivers of wood that are labeled and in a baggie that came with this. The bars need to have something stuffed in to keep them in place like folded paper or tape. Just a typical kind of quirk of an antique handmade piece. less

I don’t think the mirror is original, looks too perfect. Shipped to the USA from France in the 1990s. The shipper's label is still attached.

Comes with 3 original adjustable shelves that sit on wonder handmade sawtoothed bars. There are 2 additional more recently made shelves with bars to adjust them inside.
