Offered is a circa. mid 1950s, early 1960s Arthur Salm labeled stainless steel hostess set for hors d'oeuvres, canapés, tid-bits or toppings comprised of an elevated Teak wood rack with handles and three removable stainless steel bowls that sit suspended within the crossbars.
Arthur Salm (1904–1988) was a German interned in the Dachau Concentration Camp during WWII. Surviving Dachau, he immigrated to the United States in the 1930's and in 1952 formed Arthur Salm Inc. in Chicago, Illinois.
Salm was a designer and reseller of the highest quality mid-Century modern quality flatware and table-top. His medium of choice was stainless steel and he is remembered best for table his elegant cutlery. His Teak wood and stainless steel wares were often made in Thailand, although he designed items made in Germany, Japan and Scandinavian countries as well.
It adds a hint of flair to any buffet, cocktail party or table arrangement whether serving fondue sauces, Taco toppings, dip and crudités, or condiments.
Marked: "AS 18/10 Stainless, Japan."
The Teak wood rack measures approximately 17 inches long, 5.5 inches wide, and 1.5" in height, and the stainless steel bowls measure 4 7/8" x 4 7/8" x 7/8".
