Description: The hexagonal table exhibiting the intricacy and mastery of Chinese furniture makers came from the coastal cities of Southeast China, … more The hexagonal table exhibiting the intricacy and mastery of Chinese furniture makers came from the coastal cities of Southeast China, where the elite class or wealthy merchants demanded furniture of a higher class than those made for the ordinary people. Of my twenty years of sourcing in China, this is the only one of its kind that I found. The small six sided table has so many graceful elements that made it so unique. The flat table top is made with beaded edges and it is waisted, sitting on an apron carved with floral scroll . Small horizontal cartouches and small accents reflect a Ming Dynasty style. The cabriole legs, all six, end in an open upturn scroll that is unique. All these elements add to the graceful appearance of the piece. The antique patina, reflect the natural process of aging, show the wears of the original mahogany lacquer finish. The masterful use of joinery is employed here, all the pieces fit together with a series of joints that able the table to be very sturdy.
