An American sculptor, Louise Nevelson, born Leah Berliawsky in the Russian Empire in 1899, emigrated to the U.S. in the early 20th century. She was known for her monumental, monochromatic, wooden ‘environments.’

She died in 1988 and was survived by her Studio Assistant, Diana MacKown, of whose collection this sculpture was part of. Mike Nevelson, her son produced the bronze editions in the 1980’s. less
