This Really is a Great Looking & Very Unusual Antique Small Size Child's - Youth Arm Chair. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Made Out and is Rendered in The Classic Bentwood Seating Style. Bentwood Chairs are Sometimes Called a Thonet Chair in honor of its creator Michael Thonet. In My Opinion I Believe the This One Could be Attributed to Thonet - Made in Germany or Austria. The Name “Bentwood” is Derived from the fact that the Wood on the Chair has Been Bent into Position. Using a combination of heat and moisture, the wood becomes soft and flexible enough to bend into different shapes. Once it dries out, the wood becomes hardened and keeps it new shape for many years to come. There are many different types of wood that can be used, although ash and beech are generally the best because they can bend easily and do not crack like other, harder woods tend to do under the process. I do believe that This one is Constructed in Beech Wood. It has a Solid Seat that is Covered with Woven Cane ( Unusual For This Type of Chair - Typically Cane Seats Are Not Backed with a Solid Wood Seat! ). Chair Cane is Made Out of The Stem or Trunk of The Rattan Palm, of the Genus Calamus Rotan. While there are Hundreds of Species of Rattan, only a Few are Durable and Beautiful Enough to Serve for the Types of Chair Caning. It Still Retains its Original Varnish Finish that has Developed a Wonderful Naturally Aged Color - Texture & Patina that Only Time - Use and Exposure Can Create. It Displays Beautifully. It is in Very Good Cosmetic - Strong - Sound and Usable Condition. This Would make a Great - Unique Stand for a Plant or Flowers, A Piece of Stoneware - Crock, Lamp, Cast Iron Decorative Item Etc. These Days these Types of Small Antique Youth Chairs are Also Hung - Mounted and Displayed as Wall Decor.
It Measures Overall 20 1/4 inches Tall x 12 3 inches Wide x 14 1/2 inches Deep - Long.
