A beautiful, finely carved Tang dynasty Silk Road style solid stone statue of Goddess of Compassion Guan Yin Avalokitwshavara. The bodhisattva is shown standing in a tribhanga pose on top of a waisted lotus base, left hand in abhaya mudra, right hand in bhumisparsa holding part of the scarf that wraps around her body, all representing "no fear". She wears a scalloped necklace and a dhoti bound and gathered at the waist. The full face is with down cast eyes, a sensuous mouth, all under hair drawn up into a high chignon adorned with a foliate crown. Carved from a single-block boulder, Avalokiteshvara is depicted Tang dynasty style with the silk road influence. The face with serene and compassionate expression, conveys a great sense of peace.
