A wonderful French art deco pendant in wrought iron. The richly worked fixture holds a ball shaped shade representing peacocks by the famous Muller glass company in clear frosted molded-pressed glass. It is signed Muller fres Luneville . These Muller Peacock globes exist in two sizes. A small one with a diameter of 14 cm and a large one of about 25 cm in diameter. This pendant holds the larger one of 25 cm. These Muller globes always have two signatures. One near the collar done with a mold in acid. And another one pressed in relief on the globe. Most of the time this pressed Muller freres Luneville signature is very vague. On the globe of this pendant, it is rather well done though. But the acid made signature is less.
The pendant was made around 1925-1930 by Marcel Vasseur a blacksmith who like E. Brandt and R. Subes had a large workshop in Paris making pieces both on command as for his own outlet. Vasseur was represented at the 1925 art décorative exhibit in Paris. He used shades from several different glass manufactories for this lighting fixtures. Muller ones in pressed glass as well as Daum or Schneider shades in double layered hand-blown glass with colour inclusions. The pendant can be seen in one of the M. Vasseur et Cie. catalogs. The catalog is no part of this sale.
The pendant a total drop of 75 cm (29-1/2"). It is in very good condition. With a nice deep-brown patina with a subtle egg gloss appearance. I have rewired the mounting with stylish cloth covered twisted cord and an American standard base socket.
