The design … Read more A German Jugendstil ice bucket for wine or champagne by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) of Geislingen, dating circa 1925. The design can also be used as a cachepot—from the French verb cacher, meaning "to hide"—as a decorative vase-like vessel used to hold (or hide) a plant's growing pot.

This ice bucket was designed in the Jugendstil style which is the German iteration of Art Nouveau. The gleaming copper body is decorated below the shoulder with a low-relief frieze of leaves under whiplash stems. The pierced "batwing" handles are made from golden brass. Marked on the base with WMF's so-called "running ostrich" mark, used on the company's designs from circa 1925 to 1930.

Good condition with scattered shallow scratches. There is some discoloration and corrosion visible inside where a plant pot made contact with the base. There are several dings around the edges of the base but the cachepot rests securely on a flat surface. The outer dimensions of the piece measure 9.25 in. wide (handle to handle) x 7.13 in. height (to top of handle). The copper pot is 6.25 in. height and the opening is 6 in. diameter. See less
