This is a tall statuette, hand carved in ebonized wood with exquisite details. Her arms and legs are angular yet balanced, similar to Matisse's dance figurines. Her dress is a sheath sarong, and even though she appears to be carrying a heavy jug on her head, she does so with dignity and balance.
