This Mark Rothko rare vintage 1998 iconic Abstract Expressionist collector's softcover lithograph print landmark volume large exhibition art book is an incredibly special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The Modern Art retrospective exhibition book is published by The National Gallery of Art Washington D.C. and Yale University Press New Haven & London, printed in Spain in 1998, with accompanied compelling text authored by Jeffrey Weiss.
Mark Rothko ( 1903 - 1970 ) is an American Modernist painter of Russian jewish descent. Although Rothko himself refused to adhere to any art movement, he is generally defined as an Abstract Expressionist. His bold use of color fields make the artworks impressively iconic and highly individual. Rothko is considered to be one of the most important and influential American painters of The Twentieth Century. Art works by Rothko are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This book was published in conjunction with a major retrospective exhibition of Rothko's work that opened at The National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and traveled to The Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and The Musee D'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.
The rare out of print Abstract Expressionist landmark volume large format art book measures 9" W X 12 1/4" H X 1 1/2" D, with 376 pages, featuring 117 full color offset lithograph print illustrations.
It is printed on premium paper stock. Included in the book is a full chronology of Rothko's life and interviews about his legacy by artists Ellsworth Kelly, Brice Marden, Gerhard Richter, Robert Ryman, and George Segal.
