A dramatic Japanese woven bamboo ikebana basket made from natural bamboo in the 'Thousand-line Construction' or the 'senjo' series in a contemporary form.

Excellent overall detail shows effortless craftsmanship in an unusual pattern and weave.
The 'Thousand-line Construction' is technically not a plaiting technique. It does not involve interlacing various elements but aligning stiff bamboo elements in parallel and securing them using a variety of methods.
Parrallel rows of eight strips of flat bamboo are bound to the rim.
A simple shape evolves, but the rhythmical pattern with open 'windows' and a gloss of lacquer finish imbues this with a modern feel that continues to attract collectors.
The rim is the lifeblood of a basket. If it breaks, the basket falls apart.....
