Offered is a vintage hand turned oval dough bowl in Maple wood by the Parrish Wood Company in the late 1920s or early 1930s. We have had the bowl professionally refinished by a master wood turner and left the logo intact on the bottom with its original varnish. Perfect to use as a dough bowl or mixing bowl, even lovelier as a centerpiece or bread bowl as the shape is modernist and sleek.
Measures 17" long, 9" wide, 2.25" deep
Parrish Wood began in Chicago in the late 1800s and began manufacturing its bowls in Michigan in the early 1900s. Hulbert Michigan was a deserted old logging village in 1919 when James Shepherd Parrish moved his woodenware factory there. He named the company the J. Shepherd Parrish Company; locals called it the "Wooden Bowl Factory." Parrish took advantage of the local hardwoods such as cherry, oak and maple---this nice old bowl is made of maple. The company incorporated in 1946 in Michigan, with a branch office registered in Illinois; it was dissolved in 1979.
The company logo, stamped in black in the center of the underside, features the name Parrish in Art Deco letters, set in a triangle. This mark was used into the early 1940's (later bowls were stamped "Made in U.S.A.).
