Keith Haring ( 1958 - 1990 ) was an incredibly vibrant American artist and social activist who's artwork responded to the 1980's Street culture by expressing concepts of birth, death, love, sexuality, and war. Haring's work was often heavily political, his imagery became a widely recognized vivid and iconic visual language of the late 20th Century. Haring's close friends and inspirational contemporaries included Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, and Madonna all of whom he collaborated with in his lifetime. Artworks by Haring are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Haring emerged as a shooting star in the New York art scene in the 1980's. Between 1982 and 1990 he designed about eighty-five posters. These included advertisements for exhibitions of his work as well as for cultural events and political issues. Haring's bold colorful posters, with their own precise pictorial language, direct messages, and universal appeal, still exert an incomparable fascination on us to this day.
