This Marc Chagall rare vintage 1974 first edition Expressionist Mourlot lithograph print Maeght Editeur hardcover Mid Century Modern Art book is an incredibly special and uniaue book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover book with yellow linen covered boards, embossed cover and spine titles, and dust jacket is published by Leon Amiel Publisher, New York and Maeght Editeur, Paris. Printed in Switzerland in 1974 by Benteli S.A. Berne, photogravure printings of the illustrations in color by S.R.G. Paris. The coveted volume features a double page original color lithograph print pulled by the famous fine art printer Mourlot Paris.
Marc Chagall ( 1887 - 1985 ) The French Russian born Jewish artist is known for both his sense of color and fluid aesthetic. His early Modernist artworks explore concepts and themes of spirituality, angelic influences, and the Jewish cultural life human experience. Chagall is commonly regarded as the quintessential preeminent Jewish artist of The Twentieth Century. His mastery of the expressive language of color, and creations in nearly every medium and form of art won him recognition as a leading figure in world Modern Art.
Maeght Editeur was founded by editor, publisher, art dealer, and owner of his infamous art gallery, Aime Maeght in 1945 in Paris France. Coinciding with the end of World War II and the return of many exiled artists back to France. Maeght Editeur exhibited and published color lithograph prints by the gallery's famous artists of the time including Francis Bacon, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Richard Lindner, and Henri Matisse among many others. Maeght Editeur is recognized as one of the most important publishers of lithographs and fine art books in the world, such as this book.
The rare out of print 1st edition hardcover art book measures 11 1/2" W X 11 1/4" H X 1" D, with 215 pages. It features 154 photogravure print illustrations including 38 in full color, and a double page original Mourlot color lithograph print, artist biography and list of art works.
It is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, use, light signs of handling and light wear.
