This " Lee Krasner : Living Colour " Abstract Expressionist hardcover exhibition art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with matte finish laminated cover boards is published by Thames & Hudson London, and The Barbican Centre Art Gallery London. Printed and bound in Italy in 2019 by Trento SRL, in conjunction with the " Living Colour " exhibition at The Barbican Art Gallery London, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Zentrum Paul Klee Switzerland, and The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Spain. Printed with the licensed authorized rights of the Pollock Krasner Foundation.
Lee Krasner ( 1908 - 1984 ) was an American Abstract Expressionist painter of a Russian Jewish background. She worked in painting, collage, drawing, and occasionally mosaics. Often cutting apart her paintings to create collage paintings. Although her marriage to artist Jackson Pollock sometimes overshadowed the importance of her work, the gestural and expressive artworks are considered to be some of the most important Abstract paintings of The 20th Century. She is one of the few female artists to have had a retrospective exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
This richly illustrated monograph shines light on the work and life of Lee Krasner, a pioneer of Abstract Expressionism. Acknowledging her belated recognition, she quipped " I was a woman, Jewish, a widow, a damn good painter, thank you, and a little too independent."
This volume features a selection of the artist's most important paintings, collages, and works on paper. Essays by Eleanor Nairne, Katy Siegel, John Yau and Suzanne Hudson ; a previously unpublished interview with her biographer Gail Levin, and a fully illustrated chronology offers a powerful reassessment of one of the leading figures of 20th Century American Art.
The Abstract Expressionist hardcover exhibition art book measures 9" W X 11 1/4" H, with 240 pages. It features 214 color illustrations, artist chronology, bibliography, and list of works.
