A warm gathering at the beginning of the last century at a mountain top courtyard in Assisi Italy built just after the Middle Ages where mostly woman are doing their shopping and men are loitering around. There are clergymen in the background doing their own business. The thickness of the paint reflects depth as the foreground figures have thick paint gradually reduced in to the top figures in the background. The dresses, clothing and colors are extraordinary and the composition exquisite. There are 111 figures painted on this large canvas.

Condition: Very good. Recently cleaned with new archival varnish. Frame touched up as necessary with carved wood antique frames. Unlined canvas. Reverse of canvas is painted with what appears to be the beginnings of a sketch of a view out of a window. Very minor frame abrasion at edges, particularly in the upper left corner. A very few small dots of accretion, likely paint. Frame with wear commensurate of age and use. Ready to hang on your wall.
