Hans Wagula (1894-1964) was an Austrian artist who is credited as being the artist of quite a few Austrian travel posters and brochures. Especially active in the 1930s, his style combines extreme flatness (such as the landscape in the background of this poster) with highly detailed textures (such as the way he's captured the wrinkles and play of light on the woman's dress!). Along with his palette of strong, bold colours, this poster is a beautiful example of Art Deco imagery. Not to mention charm: the smiling woman dressed in regional costume stands with a book in hand, looking back as if in invitation to join her along her walk to the Alps in the distance.
Printed in Austria, this poster has been recently linen-backed. It is in excellent condition, and ready to be framed!
