This remarkable set of compote spoons and ladle is hallmarked with British stamps and the initials “GS.” While I can’t … Read more This remarkable set of compote spoons and ladle is hallmarked with British stamps and the initials “GS.” While I can’t be certain of the age, these marks would put the manufacture of the utensils in the late 18th century. Possibly George Smith V, London 1791. The bowls of the spoons are gilt and show fruit in repousse form. The ladle is pierced to allowed the sugared fruit juices to fall through when serving. The silver in this set weighs 10.37 oz total. The pieces come in a leather presentation box. See less
