This listing includes a photo of Jim Peed (1930-2015) from his obituary in the Hickory, North Carolina, media.
He was born Aug. 10, 1930 in Indianapolis. He studied at Brown University, returning home after his father's death. He finished his education at Indiana University Bloomington and received his bachelor's degree in fine arts with a minor in English. After college, he fulfilled his obligation to the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant. After being honorably discharged, the family took up residence in San Francisco. There he designed and built a chair that received accolades and led to his distinguished career in furniture design. In 1959, Jim moved with his wife and family to North Carolina, where he designed for Hickory Manufacturing and later, Drexel Furniture, and while there, ultimately directed design, merchandising and advertising for all three divisions of Drexel Enterprises.
He founded his own furniture design firm, Jim Peed Associates, in 1969 with a Drexel associate, Jim Drum. Over the next 30 years, he worked with leading furniture companies including Henredon, Romweber, Hickory Chair, Thomasville, Drexel, DMT, National Mt. Airy, Bassett, Century and many more. less
