Joe Goossen's Gym in Van Nuys is a legend in the boxing world, a positive force in the community and an important part of Los Angeles history. This work was intended as a commemorative presentation piece to hang on the gym's wall. The piece is titled, "Michael 'second to' Nunn" and shows the boxer so honored in the center of the radiant design on its diamond of illustration board. The boxer of course is multiple champion Mike Nunn, whose fall from grace may explain why this no longer hangs on the gym's wall.
Whether we call it fan art or folk art, this work has an authenticity and passion that gives us chills. Triumph and tragedy on a 34" x 34" square. (Displayed as intended, in diamond orientation, it is 47" high and across.) less
