This is a beautiful set of heavy, large, wrought iron fire dogs (log holders) in wonderful vintage condition. These are made for a large open fireplace and are the type of item that makes a statement. Firedogs are used by placing the logs along the billet bars (the long stretched bars going towards the back of the fireplace) and then adding the kindling in the space under the logs. This set is handmade and very sturdy. The only "flaw" found was the usage wear that can be seen on the billet bars. We love the flourish details and the lower "hook" that is meant to house the poker. There is a small space on the top of each flourish and we were told that they could hold a candle in each. Torchiere andirons allowed for the addition of candles so some light could be provided even when the fireplace was not lit. The space above each flourish seems small but a tapered candle can fit, if hot wax was used to hold it in place. Please review the photographs to see the condition details up close.
