Wonderful Antique set 8 chairs with 2 armchairs and 6 side chairs. Made about the 1920s or 1930s in the Brutalist style and crafted of solid oak. The legs are wonderful bulbous Jacobean style. They have a nice carved top crest. Little roundedness to the back for more comfortable seating. Good large size which can be hard to find on antique chairs. Removable seat bottom which was designed for easier cleaning, but also makes reupholstery easier.
This is an original set and not a later reproduction. It dates from the 1920’s or 1930's.
Theses are original vintage items that have been completely professionally restored. Re-gluing involved taking each chair completely apart and using a resin glue in the reassembly process. No short-cuts were used. The refinishing was done by hand stripping and hand sanding. The stain was an oil base stain (this puts moisture back into the wood but requires more additional drying time than solvent based stains.) Next a series of sealers and lacquers were applied with hand sanding between the layers. The final coat is a durable bar-top lacquer.
You can see the many years of honest wear and use that occurred before restoration. However, we chose to leave these details that are part of the character that makes antiques special.
