A Dinka headrest in a very stylized zoomorphic shape. The base is formed with hollow shape Each end is cut in the form of an animal (Horse?) the body depicted by a silver metal studs. This headrest has a beautiful dark brown warm patina( refinished and waxed)
These stools and headrests are known as thoch (stool), and used as a headrest and seat by both old men and women. They are also used to protect elaborate coiffure. In the Dinka society and neighboring peoples, headrests like this are very personal.
