Signed "Jene '37" … Read more Gorgeous pastel colored oil painting of a Southern California grassland landscape by Jene Jackman (American, 1910-1970). 1937. Signed "Jene '37" lower left. Presented in rustic giltwood frame. Image, 36"H x 52"L. We conferred with the son of Jene and confirmed it was his fathers work. Born in New York, Jene was the son of artists Violet and Oscar Jackman. He came to southern California with his parents in 1914. Raised in an artistic milieu, he began painting as a small child. By 1930 he had settled in Glendale and was an accomplished painter of the landscape near his home. He sometimes used the pseudonym Eugene Disney Jackman. See less
