Well executed painting of this historic landmark in Montmartre. Artist unknown.

This humble building has been painted hundreds or even thousands of times by known and unknown artists, the most famous of which is Maurice Utrillo, who had numerous renditions of this subject. Lucien Dalarue and Emile Boyer have also done excellent paintings of Lapin Agile.

The Lapin Agile is located in the Montmartre district in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, near the Sacre Coeur Basilica.

Owned by the cabaret singer and comedian Aristide Bruant in the early 20th century, The Lapin Agile became a hangout for artists and writers, including Picasso, Modigliani, Apollinaire, Hemingway and of course, Maurice Utrillo.

The Lapin Agile has always been a popular nightspot for Montmartre residents and all sorts eccentrics, rich and poor people, local artists and anarchists, and others from the Latin Quarter looking for eclectic entertainment and sometimes even lodging.
