The cocoa hued pitcher (3.5"W x 3"D x 3.25"H) is believed to be a custom made piece by Lovatt Langley for the Wm. Butler & Co. Brewery, founded 1874 in Wolverhampton England. It is ironstone, with a smooth gloss glazed surface at the top, a dimpled center band, and a textural, matte glazed lower half. It is adorned with a cream medallion of the bird featured in the brewery's logo. The design and markings suggest fabrication in the Victorian era. Mark en verso of the brewery; no maker's marks.
The cocoa brown rimmed, handpainted terracotta bowl (3.25"Dia. x 2.75"H) features a yellow & blue song bird amongst green foliage. Italian in origin and probably mid-century, We found 1 other example of this artist's work (a vase, $595) but have been unable to identify him/her by name. Marked en verso with stylized intials (V C), Italy, and the number 410.
The pitcher is in excellent antique condition with no chips, no cracks, no crazing. The bowl has glaze chips and overall finish wear.
